FIBRE
|
 |
 |
  |
Fibre
helps in the digestive process and is thought to lower cholesterol
and help control blood glucose. The two types of fibre in food
are soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibre, found in beans, fruits,
and oat products, dissolves in water and is thought to help
lower blood fats and blood glucose. Insoluble fibre, found in
whole-grain products and vegetables, passes directly through
the digestive system, helping to rid the body of waste products
and possibly prevent diseases such as colon cancer. |

CARBOHYDRATES
|
 |
 |
  |
The
primary function of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the
body, especially the brain and the nervous system. The body
breaks down starches and sugars into a substance called glucose,
which is used for energy by the body. |

FAT

 |
  |
Fat
is one of the three nutrients, along with protein and carbohydrates,
that supply calories to the body. Fat provides 9 calories per
gram, more than twice the number provided by carbohydrates or
protein. It is essential for the proper functioning of the body
and provides the "essential" fatty acids, which are
not made by the body and must be obtained from food. Healthy
skin and hair are maintained by fat. |
